Being earth friendly
You might have seen me reference this on the website and on social media and I do so because the word ‘sustainable’ seems to be over used, unclear and a bit trendy. This blog post is to share with you all the ways in which I think in an earth friendly way to reduce waste, use local growers when I’m able and design in a way that elements can be moved or kept to be used again.
Let me begin by telling you about when I decided to change how I work and why. I was freelancing for another florist, something that we all do gain experience and to help out flowery friends. We were creating a very opulant wedding at a top London hotel and it was so over the top but classy and luxury. I asked one of my fellow florists what happens to all the flowers after the event and to my shock I was told they would probably go in the bin as the hotel had another big event the next day.
So why weren’t the couple, their family and friends taking them home was my first thought. I quickly rang all my London friends and told them if they wanted flowers to be at the back door of said hotel at 2am when we cleared the room. So from this moment I have always created designs that can be taken apart and given away at the end of weddings.
We also create with plants for weddings and events as these are great bases for large displays and can be kept and planted on, a lasting memory.
